I am a 21 year old student at Wits University. I am a student mentor for the Golden Key International Honour Society as I enjoy assisting others around me to develop and reach their potential.
I recall struggling with Maths as a Grade 9 student, thinking that I could never possibly become proficient at the subject. Turns out, the issue wasn’t with me, but rather the way Maths (and for that matter any other subject) at school is taught; a classroom with thirty or more kids and one teacher. With regular one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions, I tremendously improved in my Maths capabilities and understanding, and have since strongly believed that tutoring, for most kids, is a necessary supplement to schooling.
I find it enjoyable tutoring primary school kids as I have the patience, commitment and persistence to keep them moving forward and overcome mental challenges. Seeing a child realise and understand that learning isn’t daunting nor is it boring never tires me.
